Bio: I’ve owned many dogs in my life, but Winnie was my heart dog. She was the first dog I had after I moved out of my parent’s house. I remember driving home with her in from the airport, and her making noises like Beaker from the Muppet Show, leading to her first nickname. She moved with me to Phoenix in February 1998, ‘watched’ me marry my true love in October 1998, and ‘saw’ my two children born in 2006 and 2007. We started our first agility class in November 98, our first agility trial was a year later. Being an Italian Greyhound, we struggled on cold mornings to do the down on the table, and the joke around the trials became if it was “Winnie Weather” that day – perfect Winnie Weather was 65-70 degrees and sunny. Over the next eleven years we competed together in so many places and met many of you. We attended several National trials, which are some of my favorite memories with her. She was highly ranked in agility, obedience, and LGRA many years over her lifetime.
Her last run with me was at the IGCA Nationals in October 2010. In early 2011, my son was three years old when he said to me one night before bed, “Sometimes dogs get old and we take them to the doctor. Sometimes the doctor can’t fix them.” Such was the case with Winnie only a few months later. I was always so proud to bring her to the start line. She was The Winster, The Winnie-bago, The Princess. This is a dog I will never, ever forget.
